Castle Kitchen, Montgomery, Cultural Detour Part 5

I had been filming at Beacon Ring Hillfort (owned by Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust) on Long Mountain above Welshpool for a programme for S4C with presenter Gareth Potter about the Welsh Borders and once we had finished I made a beeline for St Michael's Church, Forden to enjoy that wonderful east window by William Morris & Co. Once that was done and enjoyed it was time for a 'panad' so I headed up to Montgomery, 4 miles up the road, parked in the wonderful square and headed into Castle Kitchen. Part cafe / part shop and with garden seating outdoors.

What can I say - friendly staff - absolutely brilliant - it was a real 'teashop' vibe, people chatting, everybody smiling - healthy banter - almost Midsomer (without the murders). I ordered a pot of tea and then got tempted to the scone and jam.

The scone arrives warm - all homemade - and it is good no doubt about that. I pay the price - my gluten intolerance won't have it any more. Shame really as I wish I could indulge once in a while ......

.......   still for everybody else - go for it - indulge and enjoy.
